How many MDs to make a difference
If you know an MD at a BB very well and is a family friend--how much can they truly help you? Can they just get you the interview?

What about family friend outside of U.S? Could they still have any kind of power or connections with U.S based MDs?

So if your family friend abroad can get US team to refer you then you’re back at original point. If your family friend is in a country where the MD can bend the rules more, great
If you know a MD at BB that can give you a recommendation, you will probably get an interview. A lot of the BB recruiting nowadays is fairly structured and they probably can not get you a job. Although this would depend on their standing at the bank (i.e Group Head, Senior MD, Rainmaker).
What they can do though, is get you connected with good firms that have more unstructured recruiting processes (Smaller banks, PE Firms, etc.). If they can help you get good freshman and sophmore Summer internships, then you will be well prepared for Junior summer recruiting.
