How many vacation days do you get to take each year?

I’m curious whats a typical amount of vacation days people get in ib / in finance in general.
My group gives analysts 20 pto days, 7 sick days and 3 personal days (we typically use most of them)
For associates, it’s 25 pto days, others are the same. Unsure if it climbs higher for people more senior than that.

Our vacation days may be on the more generous side, but curious to hear:

  • How many vacation days do you usually get?
    - Do you get to take them all?
    - What group / function are you in?

Funniest

MM IB. We get unlimited vacation days, so realistically that means 0 vacation days.

This is incorrect. I work at HL and people still take a few weeks for vacation under this policy

My roommate works at HL and he’s taken at least 2 weeks of vacation this year lol

I worked at a shop that had a similar vacation policy and people definitely took a few weeks per year lol

My group get 4 weeks of vacation and we all use them up. Then we take a few 3-5 day weekends using sick and personal days.

Best is to use a personal day the day after a 3 day weekend to make it a 4 day weekend.

I don’t understand when analysts get 3 weeks of vacation and only take a week off. Unless you’re so over staffed that you don’t get a few weeks around the new year or in summer, it doesn’t make sense as you’re not getting paid extra to work those extra weeks.  Base salaries are a fixed amount and your bonus is a fixed percentage of your base.

It’s important to take time to prioritize yourself and your own well-being.

I work in secondaries. We get 3 weeks of vacation, 5 personal days, 10 sick days.

Usually everyone takes their vacation and personal days. People tend to use some of their sick days.

Secondaries in an IB or PE?
I see your username but I don't know if it's accurate so asking to verify.

Wait you have a limited amount of sick days? Wtf

We get 30 days as an1, haven’t worked a full-year but I know most of my colleagues get 4 weeks of vacation in total per year. Kinda normal that weeks get canceled tho, and people are expected to be reachable

Definitely traveling. Tired of staying indoors all day

Four are in my contract but if I even tried to take three I would get fired.

It's typical for people to take some time around Christmas, with the expectation that we may have to work a bit, and then take 1-2 weeks in our first year.

If you take two, they will not be consecutive.

August is lighter and December somewhat light.

If you knew my group it’s notoriety would not surprise you.
