How should I start my CFA® designation?
Hi guys I am a first-year undergrad student doing a non-business/non-econ major at a top 10 US school.
All I know about the CFA® designation is that you need to study for 3 exams, have work experience and ethics compliance.
Is it possible for me to atleast register with the institute and take the exams so I can list that on my resume? Do I have to be 18 to start them? I am still 17
Please help me, I really want to start reading those textbooks in my spare time =)
You have to be a college graduate or in your final year of study to be eligible to sit for the Level I exam.
That aside, if you are in your first year of school there are plenty of other things you should be focusing on - just getting good grades, getting involved with campus leadership, networking with alumni/family friends, and most importantly having fun in college. There's a lot of overachievers out there who will always have credentials to trump yours, but social skills and a few entertaining stories are the kind of things that take you from being a good interview candidate to the type of person people want to work with.
If you are serious about it you would have read the FAQ on the CFAI website.
why the hell would you take it while you're still in school? enjoy college, and get whatever company you work for afterwards to pick up the $2-3 grand it costs to take all three.
