How to approach a recruiter
I go to a semi-target's engineering school, think Michigan or Cal. However, I am not in the business school and am not eligible for half the resume drops. I did get most of the campus recruiters' contact information from the business career office.
I am just wondering how I should approach this.
Should I
- email them, tell them I am interested, have prior experience and would love to be considered and ask if I could send them my cover letter/resume
or
- Email them, tell them the same thing, but just say "enclosed is a copy of my resume and cover letter....."
Lastly, should I wait till closer to deadline before I email them? If I email them too early will they not even remember some kid sent them a cover letter and resume way back in December?
Thanks
If I were you, my thought process would be
Go with choice no.1 they are more likely to reply and you would know that they read your email... Go with choice no.2 They can't say no, but you will also wonder if they actually read your email :-p
Definitely try to call them since that leaves a better impression than e-mail. If you don't have their number, send an e-mail asking if you can talk over the phone.
I tried calling and one of the recruiters told me "just apply online".. should I send her a email with a copy of my resume after I do so? like along the line of "it's nice speaking with you the other day. I have applied online based on your advice. Thanks for all your help. Enclosed is a copy of my resume for your reference... blah blah blah"? Or would that be considered annoying?
Be persistent, send the email.
