I mean I'm not an analyst, I'm also currently an intern but honestly if you just don't reciprocate energy and are pretty curt with your responses, shouldn't that remedy it?

I worked in IB as an intern and analyst for about 2.5 years. My thoughts

  • you have to accept people like this will exist in your career. Recognizing you can't escape these people helps you mentally. Kind of like setting the expectation makes the pain easier
  • while no one is saying it I guarantee the bullpen can't stand this person either. Saw a lot of interns during my analyst days and you'd be surprised how often people see through the bs of these interns
  • if this person is interrupting your day with all this glazing then I'd talk to someone you trust. If it is disrupting your work then its fair to ask for someone to step in. But try to reach out to one person versus multiple. This isn't a weak move if this person is making you and others uncomfortable its not fair to just put up with it
  • Don't let it get to you. Easier said then done, but its not worth occupying your head space with this. Time and time again I had to manage or work alongside these types of people. And at times it sucks but its apart of the job.

Don't talk shit about anyone, it will only reflect poorly on you. You're stuck with this guy for another couple months and it is in your best interest to just be cordial. If he's a tool he won't get the return, if he's a stud when it comes to his actual work product then he will. Guy may be insufferable, but what do you expect when the journey to MS/GS starts when you're a freshman in college?
