Tell them you’re going to a competitor in the same sector. They’ll cut you immediately (don’t want to risk you taking proprietary info to the new firm)

Agree that you should tell them you're going to a direct competitor.

I also suggest telling HR and your boss simultaneously. Your boss might weigh the risk of you taking proprietary info vs two more weeks of labor and decide to have you work during the notice period.

In my experience, HR is way more likely to dismiss you the second they hear the word "competitor"

You don't "need" to give 2 weeks notice. There is no legal requirement for you to or for the employer to offer it to you. You are not paid out for two weeks if they decide to dismiss you right away, though any remaining accrued vacation days should be paid out. The only exception is garden leave which bankers commonly go on when they are actually going to a competitor (not allowed to start before the garden leave period expires but is paid as you technically remain employed) but I don't think it usually applies to analysts or even associates in many cases. MY firm has 1 month for VPs, 2 months for D, 3 months for MD. I don't thinkwe have it for associates.
