How to introduce yourself at a networking event?

So I will be attending the JPMorgan BA Early Advantage program on site tomorrow and I am wondering, when I start conversations/introduce myself, do I have to go into that professional realm or can I ask more candid questions (ie. sport interests/travelling)? Of course, I would ask some more career-related questions perhaps later on in the convo. I feel like everyone is going to go for the classic "what's the corporate culture like" question so I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to start elsewhere to try to find a common interest and hopefully make a lasting impression?
