How to name drop in cover letter
I’m applying to a small boutique bank and their app requires a cover letter. I’ve talked to a few analysts at the firm and I’m wondering if I should name drop them in my app. I really hit it off with one of them and he explicitly told me to mention his name. I had fine conversations with the other analysts but they didn’t tell me the same thing. To be clear, I never asked any of them if I could name drop them, that one analyst was just really generous.
Is it awkward to say in my cover letter that I spoke to multiple analysts but only name one of them? Should I name everyone I spoke to even if they didn’t give me permission to do so? I know I’m over-complicating this issue but I’m not used to name dropping or writing cover letters for IBD internships, and since this firm is very small I want to make sure I don’t step on any toes.
I think you should be fine with just the 1 name. Using more than 1 won't add anything material and may actually come across as trying to name drop.
I would say something along the lines of speaking to multiple people at the bank - including - confirmed your interest.
