How to Prep Before Hitting the Desk
I just graduated from a liberal arts school with an econ major and feel super unprepared to hit the desk at the end of the summer, especially considering we weren't put on live deals last summer due to bank policy. All the other incoming analysts in my group are NYU stern types and I feel like I'm already behind.
Are there any books or courses you'd recommend I take to supplement training? Anything I should do before shit hits the fan?
bro relax and take it easy. Soak in these last few moments of freedom for who knows how long.
Chill. Training covers a lot of stuff and banks ramp up your work slowly in order to accommodate differences.
Same boat as you from a top LAC. Can someone help us? Not just chill bro comments. We’re obviously motivated individuals just trying to prepare for our job knowing our limitations coming from a non-finance background.
Not motivated enough to use the search
Already done. Given wfh and COVID figured there may be some best practices or new resources that are newer.
If you are in a coverage group, take an excel/powerpoint crash course. If you are in a product group, go take modeling classes.
Get a jump on more difficult sections of training, brush up on excel and shortcuts, take notes as diligently as possible during training so you can reference later to avoid asking your analyst 99 questions
1- Book a flight to Mexico
2- Buy a 6-pack
3-Drink that 6-pack before your flight to Mexico
The truth is I’m not even kidding. You’ll be working 80-100h weeks so anything you would do now is superfluous. Enjoy your free time.
