How to use virtual assistants
Hey guys,
So I've been using virtual assistants for some time, and I find that they are a real life-saver, esp if you train them up.
I thought I'd see how you guys are using them / training them / managing them, and learn.
**VAs Uses: ** * looking up email addresses from hunter.io when going to a conference, so that they give me the counterparty LPs' contact email address
scheduling meetings with the above LPs
helping make changes to PPTs (such as re-ordering portfolio companies' info)
researching basic industry info from public sources / researching basic company info on public companies
checking on Linkedin for jobs that match my profile
Tips for Managing VAs
make screen recordings, so as to teach the VA how to do the task
have the VA do a bit of the work - maybe an half an hour's worth - and then check back in and show progress. That way if they are going in the wrong direction, you can course correct.
have the VA use phone to contact you any time to ask questions (but of course, the trick is getting them to feel comfortable with asking)
This is intriguing, but... what is a virtual assistant?
someone you pay as a remote consultant. Usually in a cheap location, but wherever they are, they are assisting you long-distance
Am I really the only one who uses VAs? REALLY?
Tim Ferris talks about using them in the Four Hour Work Week. You guys are missing out. I just had one spend 2 hrs organizing my contacts remotely today. They are extremely valuable and helpful guys. Highly recommend you give them a try.
I was genuinely hoping though for tips from others on managing, hiring, etc.
Any recommendations on website/job boards to find a VA? I am thinking about hiring one in the near future.
get a VA in the Philippines...they speak english...and minimum wage in the country is like $2/hour....so you can pay double that...$4/hour, and its decent money for them
Indeed all my VAs are from the Philippines. I'm ok spend $5 to $7 /hr. OK to overpay. I'm happy to pay for quality. Sometimes tho, the quality is not so good.
I gave a VA access to my LinkedIn and had them apply to 10-20 jobs a day for me. Got interviews on autopilot.
That would be helpful. How do you do that? The VA adds people you are loosely connected to?
