How will I fare this fall?

Hi everyone - thanks in advance for the advice.

I am going to be going through OCI this fall, for both investment banking and consulting. I am a Econ major at a T25 (the lower end of the T25), with a 3.9 GPA. I don't really have the traditional background/experience for someone seeking those types of jobs - I am the editor in chief of the daily newspaper, and have worked at a couple of major newspapers, but have no 'business' background. In interviews, I can definitely create a story of how my background fits, and why I'm interested - but will I even get interviews without any experience?

Thanks.

you will get interviews, craft you story with something substantive and you will get an offer for a SA>

remember, you can communicate, that's an incredibly strong talent. believe in your abilities and realize that eveyrthing can be taught in finance, you aren't being taught how to figure out how the world was created or anything esoteric.

"net worth or nothing"

I don't think he's planning on interviewing for a "SA" position.

talk up your ability to write/communicate clearly. business writing has a lot in common with journalistic writing. big points (conclusions) up front, clear explanation, restate points. etc.

Correct - which is why I'm so worried. If it were a SA position, well, nobody has any 'real' experience - but now I'm competing for what seems to be an ever-shrinking number of slots with people that have summered at BBs or MBB type consultancies. I'm just hoping that my GPA/ leadership experience will get some people to bite, my total lack of business pedigree notwithstanding.
