I Got Laid Off With Zero Notice

I came into work on Wednesday and all of a sudden they ask to have a meeting. I get laid off and they would not provide me any detail regarding why, other than it was a "Performance Issue" I asked for examples but got NONE. This is a boutique shop and we are not very big, the funny thing is they did the same thing to the last analyst I worked with, fired right before they were going to pay out their bonus. I see the pattern now but the balls for them to do that two times in a row.

I had a performance review with my associate and MD a few weeks ago and they said everything was going well. I literally got a raise after one of my reviews. I need thoughts and how I should go about my next steps.

IB-M&A  A1 btw

You have to name these fuck faces. Let's prevent others from working for them and fuck them back over.

Firm is small enough people would know who I am. I am thinking I land my next gig first...

Just saw this I know it’s late. You worked for a boiler room so I’m not suprised. This happens at every boiler room. They fire everyone they see as “bad for their culture” all the time. Hope you’re in a better spot.

lol 'boiler room' has been chucked around on this forum so much in the last week and honestly I'm glad.

I feel like half the time someone here says they're an intern at a 'boutique' it's just a shop where some sales guy who now works as a business broker and lets employees say they're 'investment banking analysts' on linkedin

Literally. The business owner is like "we do M&A for tire companies" when in reality you're just selling 400k EBITDA mom-and-pop shops. Does that still count as investment banking? I know they're business brokers but is it still IB if they're preparing management presentations and CIMS?

Dont worry big dog - same thing happened when I started banking. Get into another no name boutique and while there recruit for a BB. Thats what i did and now im a Big Swinging Dick with 1mm+ in $, two sports cars, a crazy watch collection. But you have to befriend a rich saudi friend while at the BB.

But for real though - the easiest way to start paying your rent asap is to find another no name boutique. try to find one in tech / healthcare. makes getting into a BB easier when there is a lot of deal flow. I ended up getting tinitus in my ear from the overwhelming amount of stress of it being my first layoff. take good care of your health and prioritize gym/nutrition but don't take your focus off of recruiting and don't let rejections get you down. good luck man
