I Got Laid Off With Zero Notice
I came into work on Wednesday and all of a sudden they ask to have a meeting. I get laid off and they would not provide me any detail regarding why, other than it was a "Performance Issue" I asked for examples but got NONE. This is a boutique shop and we are not very big, the funny thing is they did the same thing to the last analyst I worked with, fired right before they were going to pay out their bonus. I see the pattern now but the balls for them to do that two times in a row.
I had a performance review with my associate and MD a few weeks ago and they said everything was going well. I literally got a raise after one of my reviews. I need thoughts and how I should go about my next steps.
IB-M&A A1 btw
That firm is shit, they probably wont survive in this economic climate anyway.
Take some rest.
Greenhill?
Out these douchebags
It's so fucked. They paid the girl I used to work with half of my salary and fired her 1 year in no bs
bankers are fucking douche bags at these small boutiques. i've seen it firsthand. scummy and slimy behavior all around
Name them
You have to name these fuck faces. Let's prevent others from working for them and fuck them back over.
why are consultants the biggest morons? naming them is literally libel and grounds for a lawsuit.
no kid at a tiny boutique needs to take that risk for your entertainment
libel is a *false* statement
Definitely not libel unless it’s false and leads to damages lmao try again
New York Times v. Sullivan.
Read it.
OUT THEM!!
hahahaha
ALL HAIL SATAN
-Evil Elmo
Lazard?
Lizard
Is “I was fired right before my bonus was paid at ______ and I do not BELIEVE it was due to performance issues” libel?
Share your beliefs on the situation and state them as such.
Name the firm. You owe them nothing
Name them
Hire an employment attorney. Firing before a bonus may be illegal in some jurisdictions.
What about in NY?
Probably. This law applies to California so I imagine NYC, given its politics, may have something similar.
not illegal to fire before bonus - banks do this all the time - you are one of the dumbest consultants I've ever seen around here
it's called the BMO special since they've done it more than a few times and to their Houston office.
Name
Name them so I don’t accept an offer there in the future
Out them
Out them, but put the name with other "close comp" names - I'm sure the ppl here will be able to coax out the real one
Firm is small enough people would know who I am. I am thinking I land my next gig first...
Name, big dog, let's put cancel culture to good use for once
@ OP, if you don't feel comfortable outing your old bank, don't let a bunch of anonymous posters on a forum tell you otherwise. Look after yourself as #1, best of luck and I'm sure you'll land on your feet.
OP needs to stfu and focus on landing another job.
don't bad mouth. it sucks, but move on.
other posters are clowns
Name and shame time, seriously now.
Just don’t dox yourself in the process
Name
this guy got laid and is still complaining

Just saw this I know it’s late. You worked for a boiler room so I’m not suprised. This happens at every boiler room. They fire everyone they see as “bad for their culture” all the time. Hope you’re in a better spot.
lol 'boiler room' has been chucked around on this forum so much in the last week and honestly I'm glad.
I feel like half the time someone here says they're an intern at a 'boutique' it's just a shop where some sales guy who now works as a business broker and lets employees say they're 'investment banking analysts' on linkedin
Literally. The business owner is like "we do M&A for tire companies" when in reality you're just selling 400k EBITDA mom-and-pop shops. Does that still count as investment banking? I know they're business brokers but is it still IB if they're preparing management presentations and CIMS?
NAME THEM
Firepower Capital is one that comes to mind. Just Google it. Their ceo is a clown and they have a 5’2 manlet who makes you run through deal synergies on blue chip companies when they themselves deal with 300k dog shit ebitda deals only.
Fuck around, get burnt.
Sounds like you were at a shitty boutique (ie a no name bucket shop) and got burnt
It happens, onto the next
Dont worry big dog - same thing happened when I started banking. Get into another no name boutique and while there recruit for a BB. Thats what i did and now im a Big Swinging Dick with 1mm+ in $, two sports cars, a crazy watch collection. But you have to befriend a rich saudi friend while at the BB.
I love you lmao, will do and I’ll lyk when I’m there don’t even worry.
But for real though - the easiest way to start paying your rent asap is to find another no name boutique. try to find one in tech / healthcare. makes getting into a BB easier when there is a lot of deal flow. I ended up getting tinitus in my ear from the overwhelming amount of stress of it being my first layoff. take good care of your health and prioritize gym/nutrition but don't take your focus off of recruiting and don't let rejections get you down. good luck man
