I know what city I want to work in after graduation and beyond

Aloha Monkeys,
I'm currently separating the military (think Air Force or Navy) to finish my degree at a traditional undergraduate institution (I will either be a Sophmore or Junior). I will either be attending UPenn (non-Wharton), Georgetown MSB, or Cornell AEM. I want to work in Boston and start my career there. I have seen a lot of people mention posts to networking (I have no idea what the hell that means really) and cold emailing people (I have a few people added on LinkedIn). I'm curious to know would it make sense to fly to Boston at least once this summer and try to run into an MD or VP? I'm trying to locate the best method for me to meet people at the firm I want to work at. I have read a few forums mentioning general information. I want to see what is the best way to go about creating a plan to make myself the best I can be in the eyes of these firms.

Any advice or guidance is appreciated.

Best Regards,
Capitalism King

I would advise against flying to Boston in an attempt to bump into an MD or VP on a street, sounds like it could be costly for no benefit. Rather, try reaching out to any MD or VP that also served in the military and network that way.

Sirc I agree it is costly, but I am committed. I have learned to give it my all in everything. I will work on the other things you mentioned this summer. Thank you for your input!

Goldman does have a program for military veterans. I am looking at that avenue as well as other BBs.

Jamie_Diamond Have you or anyone you know had success at interning during the school year?

Thanks for your replies!

Yea ive had buddies intern at boutiques during the school year, would also work on classwork on their laptops while at work during the free time

What concert costs 45 cents? 50 Cent feat. Nickelback.

Rather than flying from HI wouldn’t it b3 more cost effective to make a trip after you separate or structure tour classes during school to allow for networking? Once you have a school name attached to you , you can look up alumni which should make this much easier. Start with veteran alumni, even in non-Boston offices of firms with a Boston presence, and you’ll have good luck getting people on the phone. It takes a bit of time before you get people willing to meet anyway.

I would recommend against laser guiding to a particular office of a particular firm, since they may not even be hiring the year you are summering/graduating.
