I was in a car crash and sued, worried about background check
Late last year I was rear ended while stationary by an apparent drunk driver in NYC. I had a concussion and filed a lawsuit. I was recommended therapy and accepted. Recently I've been feeling much better and decided no to go further with the lawsuit as I did not want to pile up $25k+ in medical bills with hopes of fighting in court to win it back when I already have a full time offer from a BB.
However, I just got an email from my lawyers claiming the suit is still ongoing because I did not come in person to sign it off and only told them over the phone.
I just filled my background check questionnaire and did not mention the lawsuit because I thought it was no longer being pursued.
I am so scared it would show up on my FINRA and other background check and my offer would be pulled for being involved in such a large lawsuit as it might show I have propensity to sue, the attorney said he's not sure if it would show up but I don't believe them.
What do you guys think will happen, please help
They're more concerned about you being sued and in the context of something financial than vice versa. At most you'll be asked to explain yourself but I'd get in front of the problem by contacting FINRA directly and asking about best course of action.
