IB culture in Singapore

Fellow monkeys, anyone have any views into the working culture in Singapore?

Looking to move there but wondering if the face time/overworking culture is the same there as in other Asian hubs like Hong Kong.

Anyone moved there- would love to hear peoples experiences!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, the investment banking (IB) culture in Singapore has some unique characteristics compared to other Asian hubs like Hong Kong:

  1. Work Intensity: Singapore's IB culture can be intense, especially at the more demanding shops. For example, some full-time analysts in Singapore have reported lifestyles similar to Hong Kong summer analysts, with long hours and occasional all-nighters. However, there are differences in intensity depending on the firm and team.

  2. Cultural Dynamics: Singaporean bankers are often described as liberal and open, with a mix of Western and Asian influences. They are likened to "American Born Chinese" (ABC) in terms of their demeanor—assertive yet approachable. However, there is a distinct "Singlish" accent and local flavor to interactions.

  3. Comparison to Hong Kong: While Hong Kong bankers may go home at 3-4 AM on busy days, Singapore analysts have reported sleeping in the office for extended periods during internships. This suggests that the overworking culture can be present in Singapore, but it may vary by firm and role.

  4. Diversity and Collaboration: Singapore's IB culture is shaped by its position as a global financial hub. It is more liberal and diverse compared to some other Asian markets, with a collaborative environment influenced by its multicultural workforce.

If you're considering a move, it's worth noting that the culture can vary significantly between bulge brackets (BBs) and elite boutiques (EBs), as well as across teams.
