IB Guide For Healthcare?

I’m looking for a guide similar to the 400 question IB interview guide, but I need some questions on HC specifics, I.e pharma valuation, hospital, etc. I’m interviewing for a HC Boutique and I have been told that after The ‘normal’ IB questions they sit you down for a 45 minute session on pure healthcare; both macro/political and valuation of specific HC entities. I have no clue how to prep - I know the industry well but not valuation of random biotechs.

Do you have any guidance for finding this book or a preview online that doesn’t have a $99 price tag

I mean the book the person above me mentioned is great but like having just like a fundamental understanding of drug companies and the drug development process in my opinion the most important. Like yeah you can understand what peak sales are and know that you project out longer but understanding the motivation behind that stuff will make it a lot clearer.

I found this post helpful (both parts 1 and 2) https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/biotech-finance-from-ib-to-vc-hf…

Also, Bain put out a 'Healthcare Private Equity Report', can download it on their website. May give you some insight into the different sub sectors and which are active in terms of M&A/PE. They also have multiple other healthcare publications worth a read

For recent news, the websites 'FiercePharma' and 'FierceBiotech' are useful

Hope these help with your interview

DB’s equity research 2011 pharma 101 report primer was a gold mine to understand the basics of pharma.

Lots of good primers on CROs, some decent on CDMOs

Evaluate and iqvia have yearly outlook reports that are free (and lots more) on pharma and rare diseases.

Amgen has decent biosimilars outlook on their website

Think about verticals and try to have a mindmap of how business model works:

  • patient services => who pays, what matters, how do you create value, what are the big companies…
  • professional services (CrO:): asset light services, how does it work, outsourcing trends
  • cdmo: asset heavy / borderline industrials, outsourcing trends
  • pharma/ lifecycle, from biotech to big pharma to spec pharma to generics. Risk / reward, capital markets vs m&a, who finances…
  • OTC : FMCG-style sector, category dynamics, perpetuity value
  • tech enabled services: real tech vs embedded services, how fo you value tech companies; AI & ML, data…
