IB in Moscow
This article is talking about how IB in Moscow is booming and how the banks there fight for western-educated bankers who speak russian and therefore offer huge salaries.
Does this still hold post-crisis and how are analyst salaries in Moscow compared to NYC/London etc?
Doesn't your answer your question, but I couldn't resist:

That huge salary is so that after you pay off government officials you'll be able to afford a few potatoes and a bottle of vodka.
IBD in Moscow - How competitive? (Originally Posted: 02/02/2010)
How compettitive is it for an American (who fluently speaks Russain) to get a job in Moscow? Would you usually go straight out of undergrad? Or after MBA?
How is the comp. compared to NYC/London?
Any other thoughts?
Thanks from someone who may actually want to live there. -Lookingforanswers
Haha, dude, this is a BS! Net salary in Moscow is much bigger. You will have to pay only 13%. Tax rates in Russia are very competitive.
I am wondering about the same. In fact I am Russian with fluent Russian, but getting American education (never been to Moscow)

Extremely competitive.
look into troika dialog and renaissance capital - great banks, western culture/business model, lots of top-notch foreign bankers (mostly hired from london) to be honest not too sure on your chances of landing in moscow straight out of us undergrad, but I'm sure it can be done. Both of them have small offices in New York, although its mostly sales. That could be to your advantage as they will be significantly more willing to help if you reach out early on (beginning of college). Basically, contact them freshman year set up some meetings and display continued interest thoughout. I'm sure they could hook you up with moscow ibd, and you will be an interesting candidate coming from US straight out of ugrad so im sure they will consider. good luck although be prepared to be running up against very competitive kids, russian unis are still amazing out churning out extreme brainpower!
Thanks for both opinions. I kind of want to work outside of the US after college?
If you knew ahead of time that you wanted to work outside the US in finance, what language would you learn and what country/city would you focus on?
Are you a russian native speaker? Or anything else beside english?
russian/arabic/chinese/japanese maybe french if you wanna chill in paris working for bnp :)
I'd learn English and work in London :)
"russian/arabic/chinese/japanese" - these are hardcore languages. If you didn't learn them since young age, I would not recommend you learning them now.
thats perfectly true I wouldnt bother trying if its only for your career. but then again knowing something easier like french or spanish would be of significantly lesser competitive advantage. id rather work in london too even though I know one of those languages :)
