IB internship help

So here are the most important facts.

-I am a freshmen at a non-target state school -I will have over a 3.7 GPA this semester with fairly difficult classes (for freshmen) -Have had two summer internships both not finance heavy. insurance company then top 5 outsourcing company. (mainly included busy work, but a lot of excel and worked on small finance jobs) -Involved in the Finance club, math club, and pledging next semester -Planning to double major in applied mathematics and Finance

So any suggestions where to apply for a summer internship? This is obviously not a solid resume but at least I have a fairly high GPA and have had two jobs. Remember I am only a freshmen. Any certain boutiques one might suggest? Should I try and get a PWM internship. I know im not from a target and it will be a hard path but hoping to get on it early and work my way up and network?

Any positive suggestions would be great?

PS I realize that locations in NY, Chicago, England, and DC would be hard to land. But these would obviously be Ideal if i can make enough money to pay rent (in cheapest place possible).
Would work for free if a good job in Charleston(sc), louisville(ky), nashville.

You kind of answered your own question. If you have been doing your homework, you know what you need to do (network).

No point asking for our help, you are from a non-target the difference maker is taking action. If you aren't already, the second you read this comment you need to go out and start finding people and sending them e-mails.

There is a thread with a list of some decent independents - you don't necessarily need an investment banking internship this summer, research/PWM, whatever you can.

Network in advance for next summer if you don't land anything this time.

Several of the BB offer freshman programs. Some are full summer internships, some are just several days in the spring. You should hit each firm's website, find the programs and apply. Next, you should look into your alumni database and see if there are any alumni working there. As far as a summer internship, hit career center - I hear not many opportunities, but you need to do the leg work. Next....cold calling. Again start with your alum database.

The big cities are affordable if you contact the local Universities or YMCA - they both rent rooms at very resonable college student rates.

Good luck.

btw, where do you go to school and what were your board scores? That can also help you.

I go to College of Charleston (so complete non-target) and my test scores were not great 1150 on Sat. but Im debating taking it again bc I should be able to get close to a 800 on math with practice. Do you think there is any chance of landing a BB coming from a non-target without amazing test scores? Thanks for the suggestion about the Universities and YMCA housing.

yes, anything is possible. What was your breakdown? Math? Verbal? Writing? If math was strong could be helpful.

I dont remember off the top of my mind but i got a 33 on the act math which was the 99 percentile. Sat was not good I think english 550 and math 600 and writing 500. I think I can get above 1300 maybe 1350 if I study and retake it (out of 1600 obviously).

I only know of like three BB that have a freshmen internship do you know any others I should look into? Thanks a lot form helping.

Apply for any boutiques in the area. Since you're only a freshman, if you have experience working at a smaller IB firm, it'll be an eyecatcher for recruiters.
