Ideal Background For Activist Investing?

I am curious if the shareholder advisory and takeover defense IB groups at an EB/BB have common or frequent exits to hedge funds with activist investing strategies. If activist funds are not a common exit does the shareholder advisory group provide any unique exits that other groups don't?

I have read that the ideal path to an activist fund would include IB -> PE experience as many activist investment theses rely on a business's fundamentals similar to PE investments.

It would probably be an appealing skillset to have from Shareholders Advisory, problem is lack of hard technical skills, esp at the junior level.
