If I haven’t heard back after an interview, is it better to follow up with the head of the team whom I interviewed with or Human Resources?

I had an interview last Thursday. I sent thank you emails to the people whom I interviewed with. I think the head of the team really likes me and even responded to my thank you email the day after. I reached out to HR the day after my interview to ask him about the recruiting timeline for the position. HR said he will start collecting feedback from my interviewers in the early part of this week. However, it is already Friday, and I haven’t heard anything from anyone. If I want to follow up with someone, is it better to follow up with the head of the team or HR?

Well, my thought is because the head of the team makes the decision and HR doesn’t make the decision, wouldn’t it make more sense to reach out to the head of the team?

If the interview was last Thursday, the decision is already made.  Call HR today so you can have some peace of mind before the weekend. If they still don't give a firm answer then you're probably on a waiting list
