I'm not a citizen of the US, is it possible to get hired in NY?
Hi guys, I realize that I don't have that amount of chances as you, but I'm highly motivated to get a job offer for a summer analyst position the US. Currently I'm in my homecountry. What should I do?
Don't get your hopes up. Visas are harder than ever to come by. The number of people applying for visas increased from 320k in 2014 to 400k in 2017. Meanwhile, Trump has said he intends to limit the number of visas actually granted.
Don't get your hopes up. Do you go to a target school? If not, you better have discovered an algorithm that can beat the market every time and you better be on your home country's "30 under 30" list.

Don't get your hopes up. I had three friends who were VPs at their respective home banks in Russia, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. They came to the US to get their MBAs because they couldn't transfer to a US bank otherwise. Two of them ended up starting over at Associate 0 level at MM firms, and the other got cut from every bank he interviewed at.

Man -this is really scary. I am an international starting at a top 20 MBA (UNC/Cornell/CMU) and intend to recruit for IB. Looking at your post, it seems it is going to be very difficult. Could you please share which schools your friends went to? And also why the third guy got cut? Also, should I target higher ranked schools?
Two of my friend are non-US citizens and one is currently working for GS, the other is working for BAML. Both in NY. They graduated summa cum laude at top targets though.
Mind sharing which schools were these and also whether this was for the Associate position?

I go to a non-target, also international and recently got a full time offer from an EB (EVR/Moelis/PJT). That said, it's definitely hard but knowing how hard it is doesn't really help your case at all. You need to go through recruiting with a mindset that you are just as qualified as everyone else, or even better because you've managed to sit beside all these target kids on an interview or superday (in spite of your background). Networking, above anything else, is the single most important thing that you need to master to get your foot in the door. Send me a PM and would be happy to share my story.
