Incoming analyst, don’t wanna move to a new city
Starting my banking stint in coming weeks. But I feel nostalgic as fuck as I don’t wanna leave my current city to move to NYC.
You can shit on me whatever, but living in a shoebox apartment with zero fresh air is non comparable to the house I used to live in — front yard, backyard, multiple floors.
Go fuck your incoming comments about “oh it is about the people”, bars, nightlife, whatever. Not everyone likes it, and I am one of them.
Also, when a good number of sport courses/locations are hours away from NYC, I just can’t seem to find something I love to play regularly.
I am ready for all your moneyshits, shit whatever you want. Dropping my mic on the floor.
I moved from a beautiful city to NYC for IB. I was not happy to move, yet I was grateful for the opportunity.
You should not be living in a “shoe box”. Unless you’re at a small boutique paying well below street, you will be making over $150k+ your first year. You can afford a spacious apartment if you have roommates. Even if you choose to live alone, you can still get a nice studio in a good area for an affordable cost.
I‘d prefer not to live in New York due to the cold and city life, but am aware of what it provides. You are quite literally in the finance mecca of the world, are getting paid more than pretty much anyone else your age, and will get a ton of looks for when you want to exit. This makes it worth it in my opinion.
Jersey City / Hoboken. Can get a nice luxury apartment and access to outdoor activities. With a decent night lift as well.
Renege your offer and stay where you are?
That would be the real mic drop, not a stupid rant behind an anon account lol.
Take a IB job in Charlotte or Houston then if you want to be a suburb guy.
Second this, look at Harris Williams
Cry about it (you are already ahead of the curve on that) or get a different job
You sound like a boring pussy
Weehawken is an 20 min commute to midtown so that could be an option. After a yr would be happy to switch spots with you. - HOU analyst
whats wrong with Houston?
It’s Houston
Silo'd in energy and city doesn't feel like its alive with opportunity. I also get bored w/o the chaos.
I never even thought to recruit for NYC. I went to a beautiful college and lived in SF at first. Had to look for a new job and the best offer happened to be in NYC. I was open to it and went in with zero expectations - had only visited a few times over the years. Absolutely blown away at how much I liked it. I think you should try to go in with an open mind, at the very least be curious enough to find out why so many people want to be here. It is the global financial capital after all. Personally will probably live here 5-10 more years before going back to California or another state. I grew up all over though, so I’m accustomed to moving and I’m comfortable anywhere in the US, rural urban suburban etc.
I have a great lifestyle. Live in west village, make decent money for a recent grad, going out to nice restaurants weekly, seeing good music and arts - DJs ballet opera etc every weekend, taking long walks up and down the city. Something for everyone here. You’ll find what you like.
I don’t love NYC either but it is undeniably where you should start your career. Bum it out for 2 years then you can pretty much go wherever you want. I started in NYC but now in ATL where I like it much more. Know people who did the same with Houston, Chicago and even some guy who went back home to Arkansas.
Your entire post is lame OP, literally 4/5ths of your post is this whole "Okay guys I don't care if you give me monkey shits for this - get ready for the most controversial opinion of all time but I don't care - I think NYC kinda sucks"
Bravo for the introspection OP, never heard of anyone moving to or from NYC who didn't know what they were getting into.
Felt the same way. Loved friends and family at home town and moved to NYC for IB. Hated NYC and still do to this day (currently in PE). But actively looking to move back out of the city and I have tremendous traction with multiple very good opportunities. It's not forever and I find you typically get exactly what you want in life if you ask for it / work for it.
Not everyone has that dawg in them lil guy. Stay at home with your mom and work at your regional boutique if it's such a problem then.
