Incoming Intern – Seeking Advice

I am incoming IB SA 2026 at a MM bank in a tier 1.5-2 city. The firm is fairly respected in the industry and I will most likely be in the M&A group from what the MD has communicated to me. Due to some family circumstances, I will need to complete a 5th year at school (meaning I have another summer following my SA 26 position).

I'm fairly conflicted because the team I will be on next summer is known to have consistent deal flow, good culture, and fairly good comp (slightly above street). My goal is to ideally end up in UMM or MF PE, which I would 100% have better luck at being at an EB or BB in a tier 1 city.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do in this position? I'm not even sure I will be able to return to this bank after my SA 26 term to do another SA rotation in summer '27. If I should recruit for SA 27 at BB/EB, how/when should I get started?
