Industry group: Infrastructure vs Healthcare

Hi fellow monkeys,

I have a very tough decision to make. I have been a generalist for almost 2 years now and will be moving to an industry team within my BB.

However I can not make a decision whether to go to Infrastructure or Healthcare. I like both sectors and can imagine myself working in either. I understand there are quite big differences in terms of exit opportunities and skill sets which makes my decision very difficult.

One thing to consider, I am currently working in London, but would like to move at some point across the pond and join a PE/Infra fund or even stay in banking. But I am not sure how each of these fit my aspirations. Healthcare seems more international and is driven by US companies whereas infrastructure seems like rather local business. But please correct me if I am wrong.

If any of you had a similar decision to make or now is working in either of those teams, would appreciate if you can let me know your thoughts.

Thanks a lot.

I guess it is a "local business" in the sense that it's a more established asset class in the U.K. than the U.S. My sense is that a HC background will lead to more opportunities in the US than infrastructure in the present, as a more mature industry. Tough to say for the future though with all the talk around increased infrastructure spending in the US. HC banking probably works on more corporate-level deals, while Infra is more asset deals, which I think catches recruiters eyes a bit more.
