Intern selection: Potential vs Performance?

Just completed my internship last week, awaiting word on return offers. Throughout the summer, I received positive feedback on my performance, ranking high in my class. However, a standout point was the suggestion to improve networking within the office. It's not that I had negative interactions, just that I hadn't reached out to everyone (which I tried my best to do after hearing the feedback). To be perfectly honest, (and at the risk of sounding like I'm bragging) I usually just relied on my skill and knowledge for how I got the internship. I didn't really network, which I see now the importance of.

While I'm confident in my work and outputs, I'm contemplating the significance of relationship-building skills in the broader business context. Can these skills be developed over time, or are they innate? How do they impact the selection of interns for full-time roles? (Would a firm take a shot on someone who makes more mistakes but has more connections with current employees instead?)

TL;DR: From my feedback, I think I'm a good analyst. I don't know if my firm sees my potential to be an MD or senior. Am I fucked?
