Internal Audit FT or Masters in Finance

Had a IB internship over the summer and did not get a return offer because of the market. I was able to get a 2024 FT offer in Internal audit but would like to get into IB at some point. What is the better way to get there. Do a year in internal audit and lateral over or should I get a masters in finance and recruit for FT 2025 positions.

Would try to push your grad date out by one semester, which will allow you to do another IB internship. I don’t advise working in internal audit if you aim for IB. Nothing in internal audit is transferable from a skillset perspective. Lateraling over within the same bank is easier said than done. Uphill battle if your internal audit group don’t interact with bankers at all.
