Internal Lateral Discussion

As the title suggests, looking to lateral to another group at my bank that my group works a lot with. On paper, looks easy but there are some internal politics which may make it difficult. Also, have looked externally to lateral but no getting a ton of luck there. Should I bringing it up to my manager when I chat with him soon? The people in my group generally like me so I’m worried they will block my lateral just to retain me, however, I feel that my current role is not very intellectually stimulating compared to this other group. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I just lateraled from ecm over to coverage and can tell you it can be very dramatic and there's politics involved. If you 100% are cool with your MD and he likes you and think he will support you, I would tell him first. If not, just keep it hush between you and that other team and there will be nothing he can do about it once you agree to join. He can hold you for like a month out of spite but not much longer. If you keep it to yourself, eventually you will have to tell him you are moving and if he gets angry that he was left out of the discussion, it turns into a bunch of old men arguing and being petty about a analyst moving teams. So it all depends on if you and your MD are cool like that. Regardless, you should be able to move with no problem
