Internal lateral thoughts

Hello everyone, I’m a rising junior that will be at a BB in NYC next summer. I’m at a regional target and was targeting a regional office within the same bank, and networked heavily there (MD, few assos, few analysts that really liked me ) but didn’t get an interview, likely due to not being in my schools IBW.

The regional MD referred me to the NYC office and I got an offer there, and my ultimate goal is to lateral back to the regional office after my SA stint. Should I let the MD who referred me as well as some of the analysts/assos in the regional office know of my intentions? Or should I keep my mouth shut until next summer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Keep your mouth shut until you have an offer in hand at the end of the summer, or else you lose all of your leverage. Nobody wants to give an offer to somebody who isn't going to appreciate it, especially if you're competing with other summer analysts.

Even then, you may risk burning a bridge with the NYC group without a guarantee that you'll be successful in lateraling to the regional office for full-time. Be careful about how you approach that conversation; it may not be your preferred path, but you'd probably have more leverage after a year or so as a full-time analyst with the NYC team (especially if you're staying within the same group).
