Internal Transfer to IB - Can It Be Done?
I'm a first year analyst at a BB doing derivative structuring in S&T. Have lots of alumni at the bank and quite a few solid connections to people in IB.
Was wondering what the best approach is to doing an internal transfer to a different division. Seen it done before in my bank and usually after 18 months.
I'm close with my current MD, should I tell him first? Is there a good way to seem more competitive to staffers for an IB seat? Any advice is welcome.

Seen people do this and immediately regret this decision lol. Are you on a FICC desk?
Yeah I am. Hours definitely aren't bad (kind of a sales and structuring role) and I generally like my team.
The real concern is about exit ops since I have become more interested in working with businesses instead of doing these transactions. Heard you can become pigeonholed once you reach associate so considering a move in the next year. How viable do you think it is?
