Internship as a Freshman

Is it possible to get a SA internship as a Freshman? It’s my freshman year so I’m not really aiming for a BB/EB internship just a local boutique internship for me to pad my resume

Have any of you guys done it? If you do please share some tips, I know connections are the key points but are there any other things I should look out for?

And oh yea connects are all that matter for a local opportunity. Just call up the local MD and get them to take you under their wing. If you can get a warm intro it will help a lot.

It is absolutely possible to get a local boutique IB internship freshman summer. I did it, and I have friends who did it. A great way to start would be to do a CapIQ screen of local boutiques in your area and then just cold email. Most local boutiques will be just M&A advisory in a specific industry. You may not (probably won't) get to do any work related to live deals since you're so inexperienced, but you may be able to find a shop that would take you for the summer unpaid. BB is totally impossible freshman summer even if diversity unless your dad is an MD or something. Even then it's hard.

Some others have mentioned, and a *lot* of freshmen at my school did internships at search funds. They are plentiful on Handshake right now. All usually unpaid.

You could also get something in wealth management. BB is possible at a local office, but it's still not easy per se.

Frankly you can get anything at a boutique in pretty much any subfield if you network and get lucky. I know a kid who did his freshman summer at a smallish hedge fund through networking into it with alumni. Granted he did 0 work related to actual trading, but he got to write "hedge fund summer analyst."

It is statistically impossible to get an internship as a college freshman, look it up
