Interview Advice: Serious and Eloquent vs Happy and Charismatic
Which do you hire as an interviewer. I sometimes think that being serious makes me come across as very polished, but being charismatic makes me seem more likable, although less impressive.

Not in banking but based on my experiences and what I’ve heard from mentors, interviewers prefer the personable side.
They want to find someone they can sit next to for several hours everyday. Most of the professionalism and technical side of things can be taught over time.
You are going to build relationships with your colleagues, so all else equal they will choose the person who they get along with more.
Why is this a binary choice? Keep it friendly and crack jokes but when they ask a serious question get serious.

ill choose the kid whos personable over the kid who gets every technical question correct but i dont get the impression of being able to shoot the shits with
remember, impressions are very important unless youve done a lot of networking with people in the interviewers bank
