Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know for preparing for IB technicals, especially if you're targeting Elite Boutiques (EBs):

  1. Guides to Use:

    • BIWS 400 Questions: This is a comprehensive guide that covers a wide range of technical questions. It's highly recommended for both BB and EB interviews.
    • Rosenbaum & Pearl: This guide is particularly useful for understanding M&A and Leveraged Finance, which are often emphasized in EB interviews.
  2. Study Approach:

    • Understand, Don’t Memorize: It's crucial to understand the concepts rather than just memorizing answers. EBs often have more challenging technical interviews, and interviewers can tell if you don't truly understand the material.
    • Focus Areas: Pay special attention to corporate finance concepts and how they apply in real-life scenarios. This deeper understanding will help you tackle the more complex questions that EBs are known for.
  3. Additional Tips:

    • Behavioral Questions: Besides technicals, make sure you have 5-10 stories ready for any behavioral questions and a solid resume walkthrough.
    • Networking: Engage with analysts and other professionals at the firms you're targeting to get insights into the specific technical questions they might ask.

By following these steps and using the recommended guides, you'll be well-prepared for your EB interviews. Good luck!

if you bought access to the ib course / guides go through the 4 main ones they designate as being most important and learn all the questions in there. since you're targeting EBs and will be facing tougher interview questions I would highly recommend practicing the most advanced sections of the guides and maybe looking at some of the suggested but not crucial BIWS guides. Also it can help to supplement BIWS with questions from the internet, I used liquidityshark's test bank which had some very rigorous questions asked in past cycles at EBs
