Investment Banking MBA Associate Starting Salary - 2019
What are the starting salaries for investment banking in the U.S. for 2019 (stub year)? I'll be a summer associate this summer and was wondering how salaries are at BB, EB, and MM banks.

Returning to MM bank in NYC... starting salary is 150k
I’m starting as a Summer Associate as well, I believe starting base is 150, roughly equal to summer associate rate.
As for stub bonus, well, I think that Is based on the bank. Maybe someone else here can offer more insight but I would expect stub+ FT signing bonus might be about 50-60.
EBs are either 160k or 150k, depending if they have raised in response to the BBs base increasing to 150k. I know Evercore is 160k but PWP is still at 150k.
I know MS, GS, JPM, BAML, Citi, and Barclays are all at $150 base for stub associates. Not sure about CS, DB, or UBS.
CS is 150
Baird at $175k for MBA associates with 50k sign on and 30k stub.
This might be true for NY, but I know for a fact Chicago and Milwaukee are 150 for summers
... answered above.
I think it's relatively well-known by now that post-MBA Associate base salaries are at $150k across the BBs. I think what we really need confirmation of is the year-to-year progression of the base salaries after this latest increase.
Is it:
$150k/$150k/$175k/$200k OR
$150k/$175k/$200k/$225k OR
$150k/$150k/$200k/$200k?
I think I've seen all three variations in some form or fashion over the last several months. Can anyone confirm?
From my bank and what I have heard from friends at other BBs, it is the first one
Can confirm it's #3 for MS
Post MBA Asoc starting salary was 125k for many years until Summer 2018 when MS raised it to 150 for all current and incoming Summer/Asc0/Asc1's and most other BB's followed suit. Other top BB's I can definitely confirm adopted the 150: JPM, CS, GS and Citi (I'm sure most everyone else did as well).
For reference: I graduated B-school in 2018 and just finished my stub year (MBA Assoc 0) at a top BB (GS/MS/JPM) in NYC (125k base for 2017 summer internship as the raise had not taken effect, 150k base starting full-time Aug 2018) . My experience and guidance on post MBA Asoc comp below for BB's (boutiques will be higher in all cases):
Summer Asoc: 150k base (prorated) (overtime at 50% at Citi and MS0 above 40 hrs) Signing Bonus Full-Time: 40k + 10k early + 10k relocation = 60k total (excl fellowships) Asoc 0 (stub year): 150k base (prorated) + 95k bonus (prorated = ~38.5k [my bank specific]) Asoc 1: 150k base + median 110k bonus Asoc 2: 200k base + median 160k bonus Asoc 3: 225-250k base + median [90% base bonus?]
This is the type of content that I come here for. I wish I could give you 5 SBs.
It's interesting that the base at your BB jumps from 150k to 200k from Assoc 1 to Assoc 2, and then again to 225k-250k at the Assoc 3 level.
What do you mean by overtime at 50% at citi and MS0 above 40 hours? How does this affect compensation?
It only applies to interns. You get overtime after 40 hours worked, but it's pretty paltry. Something like half your normal hourly salary for every hour over 40 worked per week, but it goes down as the hours go up (asymptotically).
Can anyone else confirm jump in base from $150k to $200k for ASO1 -> ASO2?
I can confirm that one of the top EBs (Moelis / Evercore / Lazard) goes from $150k to $175k from A1 to A2.
Curious on how this works in terms of years? For example, if you graduated B-School in summer of 2019, is it: Asoc 0: 150k base through 2019 then Asoc 1 in '20, 2 in '21, and 3 in 2022?
Bump
That's exactly it. You are an A1 your first full year on the desk.
Super helpful! Also interested if anyone has base+bonus data for EBs
Anyone know what the 2019 summer associate intern compensation looks like? I know at some BBs its still 125k base plus 2-3k relocation. Most EBs are 150k base plus about 10k signing.
DB is $150k Base, $1200 relocation, and up to $57k FT signing bonus including relocation and early signing bonus.
