Investment Banks in Boston - Reputation

Hi All,

I'm currently a sophomore who goes to a semi-target in Boston, looking to go into investment banking. I'm originally from the Boston area, and would like to stay there after graduation. Does anyone have any thoughts on the reputation of these following investment banks:

- Shea & Co

- Aeris Partners

- AGC Partners (I know there are a few threads on AGC before, but was wondering if anyone had anything new to say about the firm now).

- Capstone Headwaters

Thanks

Aeris did on-campus recruiting at my school for the first time (target midwest), and it seems like a great firm for its size (strong middle-market deal flow in tech).  Everyone was very friendly and seemed intelligent.  Analysts said that the MDs use their connections to help with recruiting, and they have had pretty good placement within PE/VC.  Overall was a great experience to recruit there, but I think it is very fit based in terms of offers and they only have a couple slots.

What industry are you interested in? Boston certainly has options, but there are more tech / HC focused teams / banks out there. Based on those firms, have heard great things about Aeries and Shea & Co (Both had a strong presence at my UG - think mainly tech focused).

Capstone seems fine too - think it varies group by group and MD by MD, though.

AGC I would definitely steer clear of hahaha you can do your research and there will be the one of person here that says 'reputation and culture are evolving', but I don't buy it. I know someone who used to be there who personally told me that the CEO made him write a good review about the firm and him (Ceo) specifically. Maybe if you do a summer there it's fine, but long term just do yourself a favor and steer clear.

Aeris is a great firm, went through their recruiting process but ultimately ended up signing with a different shop. Really enjoyed meeting the team, you can tell they care a lot about their people.

Every bank listed here is good or at least probably fine. Would however echo the person who said to avoid AGC. There are banks with bad cultures, sure, but AGC seems to really go out of their way and try their absolute hardest to make life for analysts as bad as it can possibly be.
