Ipad - Worth it?
I'll be an SA at a BB in NYC this summer and am considering getting an Ipad 2. Do most of the BB offices have wifi? If not, is it worth paying the $30/month for the data plan?

It' a distraction ... I have one and use it for nothing but porn and the Internet.
Some websites offer adult content that does not require flash. There's also a browser in the app store called Skyfire or something along those lines that actually supports flash.
You certainly wouldn't want it at your work considering it is a toy and not a productivity tool. They are cool to have if you travel a lot and don't feel like lugging around a laptop and still want to surf the web but I can't see any reason for you to have one at work.
agreed. doesnt make you look cool.
Wait until the 3rd model comes out this fall, similar to the 3GS for the iPhone, only with this, there's more of a functional difference between 2 and 3 than 1 and 2. They got the new aesthetic form down, but there's a lot more upgraded hardware coming.
I love mine
If you have a reasonably portable laptop and a smartphone, I don't see a real need. I have tried them; they are definitely quality. But they don't provide enough utility to lug around in addition to a laptop and phone. Any sort of enterprise application is pretty clunky on the ipad.
a lot of fun but doesn't yet have a place in the corporate world
I really like the research apps that some banks have.
Nice username BTW.
Get a Blackberry Playbook. Just got mine yesterday and it's probs the greatest thing in the world. I'll likely use it for work to some degree this summer.
Independent Gestion or anyone else, What are some of the advantages of the playbook over an ipad2 besides flash.
I want to get one of them but dont know which one to get
Playbook apps and the Berry OS are more business conducive; it's hard to quantify that for you but if you tried one out you'd see how helpful it can be when you spend alot of time on the move or multi-tasking e-mail, internet and excel.
Thanks for the input guys. I was mainly thinking of using it to listen to pandora and read wsj, ft, and the economist at work, but from your comments it seems like they're not really considered acceptable for the workplace. Guess I'll hold off until this fall.
It doesn't have to be a work tool. I have mine with me at work and most people on the desk have one as well. It's to listen to music, check emails and distract yourself every now and then. I did see a Playbook - our MD got one and they're nice. I love the size - and for a Blackberry Product its pretty flashy.
some sites get around it somehow... including pron sites. Also you can watch CNN clips on the ipad as well.
It's not that productively useful, but a lot of fun. There are some crazy translation tools on it that makes life a lot easier...
