Is a 1bed 1bath shoebox in Manhattan impossible for 2500?
Basically title. Moving to NYC soon so need to find something. Ideally would like to live alone, otherwise a 2bed 2bath

Not unless you want to live in Harlem
Great neighborhood. Interesting experiences almost every day. Makes life worth living.
I lived in West Harlem for a few months and a woman jogger was murdered on my doorsteps. Broke my lease pretty quickly after that.
1bed yes studio no
Most likely, unless you're looking at the outer edges of Manhattan, i.e. Washington Heights in the 170+ streets.
I had a studio for that amount, but 1 bed I think is impossible anywhere south of the 3,000s in Manhattan.
I had a spacious $1800 studio in East Village. Most of these bankers take one look at StreatEasy then tell themselves they gotta pay $3500 for a 1 bdrm lmao
What’s the secret if not just looking at street easy?
Secret - work in back office so you can be considered for “income restricted” buildings
Gotta keep monitoring for opportunities, just like traders constantly monitor the market. Develop relationships with the brokers (tell them your income & send docs ahead of time), and they may send you openings first so they don't have to pay the listing fee on a site like StreetEasy. Be willing to move quick.
Bump - what’s your recommendation on finding them then?
I moved to Astoria/LIC - subway to Midtown takes 15-20 minutes.
Do you recommend LIC as a SA / AN1?
I enjoy it, great bang for the buck and it’s only 10-15min to midtown.
Move to Chicago and live like a king
Yes, but prob not in Manhattan anymore
