Is it okay to say you want to exit investment banking?
I'm an undergraduate student and I got asked by an investment banker through email if I want to work in trading forever (if I even get that job). Is it okay to say I want to move to private equity in several years time? Or will they feel like I don't 'like IB enough'.
So is it IB or S&T then?
Also, yeah you can say you want to do something else after, but make sure you show and explain why you want this job in the first place rather than directly going into what you want to do after.
If you tell me you want to do PE after S&T I'm dinging you immediately. If you pick two consistent careers, then the above poster is correct.
Didn't mean to type in s&t. He asked me if I wanted to do trading permanently. Although I did make a mistake in assuming that sales and trading was in investment banking.
I don't think you should directly say you want to exit to PE. Say you are unsure of what you want to do for the rest of your life (you really don't as a Sophomore/Junior in college), but banking provides the best training ground and optionality for whatever it may be. Maybe say you're open to exploring banking long-term or transitioning to the buyside as potential interests.
