Is it possible to break into Hong Kong or Singapore from Western Ivey?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a student at Western University aiming to transfer into Ivey. Lately, I've been getting more interested in the finance scenes in Hong Kong and Singapore, so I wanted to ask a few questions.

Has anyone from Ivey successfully broken into the finance industry in Hong Kong or Singapore? If so, what does the typical path look like? Do people usually go there right after graduation, or do they gain experience in Canadian or U.S. IB first?

Also, I'm a Canadian citizen and I don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese, would this be a major disadvantage for me when trying to break into those markets?

If anyone currently working in the industry (or with knowledge about this path) could share some insight or advice, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

I think not being able to speak Mandarin/Chinese might put you at a disadvantage but it's definitely possible.

Past alumni have placed into top HK firms. Most recently, a senior on IPC landed Silverlake HK - you should reach out to those guys.

It's almost impossible to break into HK IB if you don't speak Mandarin unfortunately. You can get by with English only in SG instead but not sure Ivey is reputable enough for SG, cuz they'd prefer either nus/smu/ntu kids or top schools from US/UK
