Junior Internship Before Sophmore

Hey all, I have a question. While looking through what to do in sophomore year summer, I noticed many receive internships for junior summer when they are in their freshman year summer or during the fall semester of sophomore year. Why is this? Is this due to family connection, or is there an application window to apply early? Any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated!

You will certainly see your fair share of incoming SAs falling into those aforementioned buckets- don’t let it discourage you.

For normal people, recruitment (meaning apps opening) for junior summer will begin in your sophomore fall. Ideally, you can use the freshman summer to gain a good understanding of the technicals, practice behaviorals, and start to make connections with individuals at different banks.

Many people told me not to start reaching out to people until the winter (don’t do this)- some apps will be open by then and way more people will be flooding their inboxes. It’s much easier to keep up connections you made in August than fight to be noticed in January.

Make the connections early and do so in an incredibly thoughtful manner. I was explicitly told by individuals at the BB which made me an offer that the manner in which I conducted myself over email and on the phone made a huge positive impression.

Good luck- you can do this.

I appreciate very thoughtful responds! Quick question, if I connect with my school alumni on LinkedIn they accepted my LinkedIn request, is it wise to hit them up with Microsoft teams or stick with LinkedIn message? Thanks

Generally it’s easy to figure out their company email- always try and use that. I won’t name any services because WSO will probably censor them, but you may or may not be able to find companies offering free services to help find emails.

Email first and then ask to connect with them on LinkedIn if you want.
