Junior Year Internship
Assuming that you are fairly proficient in financial modeling, how much does a junior-year internship really matter when recruiting for an IB analyst role post-grad? I'm planning on interning at a bank that is not as well known for IB, and I'm wondering how this will affect my chances when interviewing for a MM or LMM senior year. I have a previous summer of IB on my resume with a 3.7+ GPA, extracurriculars, investment clubs, leadership exp, etc.
I mean ideally you get your Junior year summer internship in IB then get a FT offer. You don't really want to recruit for a FT analyst role post-grade unless you have too.
Upwards of 90% of FT spots are filled by existing interns at that bank so FT is essentially competing for a handful of scraps. In a year like this one, there are hardly any spots beyond the interns' spots. Junior internship is the most important thing you will do in college / early career if you are aiming for a finance career.
You can try to upgrade banks and it's certainly possible, but you need to network a lot over the summer and I would not let your offer from your junior internship expire either. FT is very difficult in general, even if you interned at a known brand.
