Junior Year Summer Technology Analyst -> Full Time Investment Banking
Hi everyone: I'm a computer science major at an Ivy target school and I accepted an offer from a top 3 big bank for a role as a summer technology analyst. Shortly after accepting the offer, I decided I wanted to pursue investment banking (I would love to be in a technology focused group), but I'm now wondering if it would be possible for me to convert a potential return offer into one for banking or if I would get pigeonholed into back office.
I'm taking a lot of finance related classes and will have a 3.6 GPA by the time this occurs. I'm an excellent communicator so I don't think that that would work against me, and I have a compelling story as to why I want to make the switch. Would I have a chance or should I be cold calling boutique banks trying to get a different internship?
chances are bleak tbh: i'd be curious to hear from other people, but I've never heard of the tech BO -> IB transition. A few of my friends did their summer in tech, and then went to silicon valley for FT. I have always highly, highly cautioned against doing tech at a bank (you're treated like a cost-center, no respect from FO etc.) You'd be nicely set up to go to a good software engineering job though.
that's what i've heard for full time transitions, do you know if it makes a difference if the back office job is just an internship?
