Juniors can’t touch type
Wtf is up with juniors who can’t touch type. I expect the younger generation to type at least 100 wpm.
One first year is so clueless he thinks touch typing isn’t important to master while pecking one key every minute. Drives me insane.
Top group at a top BB.
I work with an associate 0 (a2a at a top bb from a top target) who doesn't know how to spread comps. IB is no longer an aspirational industry and real talents are not coming back.
Assoc 3 in my group that goes file > save Instead of control s
touch grass
Totally agree that if you can’t touch type as a junior resource you are negative value add
Asked Jeeves what this “touch type” is.
Haha I just googled it as well. I know how to do it but have never heard of this term before and I’m 24!
100 wpm is pretty fast. Most people I've met who can touch type and I've seen the typing speed of cannot do this lol.
Either way, just wait till the younger genZers raised on ipads get into IB. None of these guys know how to use a computer for shit.
Shut up.
What % of people make it to IB? Good luck with your processes.
Haven't met a single, college educated GenZer that can't touch type. Seems like you guys let a Luddite into your ranks or some shit. Also, typing fast is a function of subject mastery just as much as clicking keys quickly. You can't type 100 WPM about something you barely understand (as a junior) unless you're copying something verbatim then it is more about clicking keys.
Get that kid the Mavis Beacon Typing game it worked wonders for me in 2nd grade lol.
The smart people all left or are no longer entering the industry. The ones left are seriously deficient. They aren't bringing their best
The value proposition in IB does not make sense. Getting paid $300k a year or whatever isn't what it was 20 years ago. That is a barely survivable wage in any major metro area in the US in the year 2023. In exchange for dedicating your entire life to a pointless endeavor and having no free time to do anything.
Those in your spot now probably said the same thing about you and your generation when you first hit the desk too.
if top BBs stopped filling 90% of their classes with diversity and nepotism maybe there'd be some better juniors…
you probably make him nervous
Once that wpm avg drops is it still “top group” at top “BB”? It’s just a matter of time until your buddies find out.
idk if i can do 100wpm lol
100 wpm is a bit extreme but are you saying they're just tapping on the key board with two fingers? I've seen it with old souls but not being able to use all your fingers and type relatively quickly is a significant disadvantage in literally any business field.
Genuine question: is this actually a bad thing if you can still type ~60 WPM? I’m an incoming PE analyst and was never taught how to touch type but can still do 50-75 WPM, which hasn’t ever inhibited me from getting work done in school/internships
I think that it's important to note that not everyone comes from a background where they learned all necessary skills, and that society isn't really fair.
I'm an incoming SA and I had 1-2 shitty typing classes in late middle school, was at a public NY elementary school (where I learned the very useful skill script) before I moved to a better area outside NY, still public school though. Never learned how to touch type because of it. I only recently started training myself because I realized the disadvantage, I was at using 2-4 fingers. I could type about 70wpm like that, and I'm currently at about 50-60 wpm touch typing.
So yea, I can understand how a junior might not know how to touch type.
This is literally all I had as far as a 'typing background' too and I ended up just fine. I don't understand how people don't learn to type by just using a keyboard like 10 times
the first week or so is brutal when you switch over - tough to swing honestly
