KKR and GS Principal Strategies
Any thoughts on getting into KKR's new hedge fund/prop trading group with all the GSPS guys? Heard good things about KKR as well as GSPS so can't go wrong right?
Any advice on getting in? How would working there compare to working at GS Special Situations Group or KKR PE -- better or worse? Thanks!!
Ridiculously hard to get into...GSPS was only eight guys.
Really? I thought GSPS was more like 50 people. I know they would recruit talented college seniors to join them straight out of undergrad. Same with SSG.
design do you mean 8 senior guys? 8 guys brought in 30% or so revenue for the firm? That is absolutely incredible
Does GSPS mostly hire top traders from other banks?

The GSPS guys aren't officially launching their KKR fund until 2011. Probably a very solid L/S shop if you can get in. But if you're trying to choose between them, KKR PE and Goldman Sachs SSG, you're probably a top bucket analyst with an excellent headhunter.
KKR PE is still probably the most reputable. GS SSG really varies depending on what group you're in (they are broken down into 3 different segments, with some more interesting than others). GSPS was known as the best internal hedge fund on the street (comparable to SSG) but since it's now part of KKR I feel like it's just another great l/s fund. Part of the allure of GSPS was sometimes in addition to trading public equities it also did private transactions and smaller p/e deals (sometimes PIPEs as well). Given they will now be integrated into KKR I wonder if they are still going to be active in the mid-market PE business.
