Kroll IB?

Does anybody know about Kroll and it's reputation? I know it's IB practice is just Duff and Phelps basically but I haven't seen anything about it in a while. Curious what their comp is, what desk is the best, etc. Anything would be appreciated

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Kroll (formerly Duff & Phelps) is primarily known for its valuation services rather than being a traditional investment bank. While they have expanded into M&A and restructuring, they are not typically viewed as a "proper Wall Street investment bank." Instead, they are often compared to the non-consulting sides of the Big 4 firms.

Here are some key points about Kroll/Duff & Phelps:

  1. Reputation: The firm has made progress in terms of revenue and geographical expansion, but it still doesn't enjoy the prestige of a boutique or middle-market investment bank. Analysts from Kroll are often perceived similarly to those from Big 4 firms rather than traditional IB boutiques.

  2. Compensation: While specific compensation details for Kroll's IB practice aren't explicitly mentioned in the WSO dataset, firms in this category generally offer pay in the same bracket as the non-consulting sides of the Big 4.

  3. Best Desks: The firm's focus is heavily on valuation, with some activity in M&A and restructuring. However, these areas are not as robust or prestigious as those at dedicated M&A or restructuring boutiques.

  4. Recruiting and Exit Opportunities: Recruiting is often unstructured and driven by networking and connections. Exit opportunities may not be as strong as those from more traditional IB firms, but they can still provide a solid foundation for careers in finance.

If you're considering Kroll, it’s important to weigh your career goals and whether their focus aligns with your aspirations. For those looking for a more traditional IB experience, other boutique or middle-market firms might be a better fit.

I left a prior comment in a thread from about a year ago in the link below that I think answers the majority of your questions.

This is just my opinion but I am pretty sure their industrials (which is primarily Chicago) and ADG (I think this is LA/NY) groups probably have the best deal flow relative to the other groups. I would also not recommend their tech group (which is now bucketed with business services), it used to have really strong deal flow relative to the other D&P IBD groups when they had all of the legacy Pagemill Partners people but they all left to start their own shop called AQ Technology Partners and the people they have brought in to replace them have not been able to replicate the success.
