L1-B visa to TN

Just got an offer for a new job. For my current job I am under an L1-B visa and will need to switch to a TN visa for the new one.

Wanted to see if anyone has done this in the past or if you have any advice. Both firms are BBs and the new firm has its immigration law firm handling but just wanted to get thoughts of people here as well. Have not resigned yet.

Yes, I know a few people who have done it. Easiest way is to go the pre-approval path and resign once you get your approval notice. With pre-approval you can also get your visa status transferred through an I-129 which means you don’t need to cross back into Canada and re-enter. Main downside to this method is it’s challenging to take any meaningful time off between jobs

Is this fairly straight forward or is it quite risky? Also heard some people recommend leaving and re-entering for a TN so would love to get your views on that approach.
