Lateral Clawback Question

Hi all, A1 (6 months in) who just got an offer at a better firm. It’s a dream opportunity, but they did not offer to pay back my 15k signing bonus that will be clawed back and seemed to dance around it when I brought it up.

How common is it for banks to pay you out of your bonus clawback? Should I try to be more upfront and ask directly or is there a better way to go about this. Currently the only “bonus” I am even being given to sign on is a $5k moving stipend that can only be spent on moving expense.
