Lateral from reputable MM to EB or BB

Hi guys,

Just a little backstory. I accepted a FT offer at a MM bank starting next summer. I come from a non-traditional route (think pre-med, engineering) so I accepted the first offer I was able to land because FT recruiting was wrapping up. I never got a chance to interview with the EBs or BB for that reason. However I feel like I have a competitive resume and would have had a good shot at landing a FT offer at other banks had I been given an opportunity.

Now my question is, how difficult would it be to lateral after 7+ months at the MM bank to a BB or EB? And if any of you guys have experience with this/advice I'd greatly appreciate your insight.

I lateraled from a "no-name" boutique to a top MM after a year of working and typed up a lateraling guide that you might find helpful. A handful of the analysts at my MM left after a year for EBs and BBs. I would say that overall the process is fairly straightforward and probably easier than moving from a "no-name" boutique since you already have that brand name behind you.

One thing that I would kindly suggest, though, is to keep an open mind. I would not enter your analyst role thinking of nothing more than lateraling. You might find that you really enjoy it at your MM.
