Is it possible to lateral from a lower tier restructuring shop to a top tier restructuring shop a year or less into analyst program? Anyone have experience and can shed light on interviews and how technical they were / what they were like? Mainly interested in PJT / EVR / HL.
It’s possible. Spots will open up to the extent analysts leave at the 1 year mark which isn’t uncommon. The interview process is pretty similar to post college in terms of structure but you might be required to take a modeling test. Content of interviews will be more to assess that you can hit the ground running so you’d be expected to speak intelligently about deals you’ve worked on and your technicals should be down cold (really shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve been paying attention during your first year)
Yes, it is possible as analysts frequently vacate their roles early and banking teams still need bodies to do the work. That being said, now is a challenging deal environment, and although theoretically rx is counter cyclical, it is not a perfect correlation. I’d say keep your ears open by communicating with people in the groups you are interested in + be ready to interview should a spot open up
