Lateraling from Product to Coverage at Other Bank
The bank I'll be joining FT to lumps in their product and coverage groups under the IBD, but the spots for coverage groups are extremely competitive. I know that I definitely do not want to be placed into a product group as I interned in one and did not enjoy it.
As a worst case scenario, if I'm placed into a product group again, is there any chance that I would be able to lateral to a coverage group at a different bank during my analyst years?
Appreciate any insight that anyone might have.
I think so, especially if you're working with the coverage team you want to be in. Do a great job, network effectively, and you'll have a great shot.
It's going to be difficult to move from product at one bank to coverage at another. Much easier if you can move internally to a coverage group and get some experience and then lateral to another bank from there.
