Lateraling - Victim of Bear Stearns debacle

I'm a victim of the Bear Stearns debacle and accepted an analyst position at a 2nd/3rd tier MM bank. I've now worked for 7+ months and want to make a move. I'm not certain of the timing for lateral hires and was hoping someone could provide some information.

I'm under the impression that there are 2 times during the 1st year where lateraling is more common: after 6 months and right after the 1st year. Is this correct? If so, am I too late in the game to lateral immediately? Should I hold off to contact people until a couple months before the end of my 1st year, or should I see who I can connect with now?

Any advise would be appreciated.

You should be open to meeting people every single day.

If you're unsure, put some feelers out.

Proceed depending on feedback.

The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Ringo. I'm tryin' real hard to be the shepherd.

Appreciate the feedback, but I'm not too certain how practical that is. I CERTAINLY don't want my current employer to know I'm looking to leave. Leaving the office frequently to grab coffee is not so easy.
